Class Encounter

August 15, 2007 at 12:07 pm (Uncategorized)

Sunday afternoon, on my way to the Zap Mama concert in Central Park, I was approached by two young socialites (ha! I nearly typed “socialists”) after I parked my car along 5th Ave.

“Excuse me,” one trilled uselessly, “Can you help us?”

“What can I do for you?” I asked, wondering what I was about to get into.

“It’s a silly question, and we’re very embarrassed, but can you tell us where Tiffany’s is?” she giggled.

“It’s down the street.” I pointed southward.

“Oh, we know that! But, how far down is it? And is it on the right or the left?”

I looked at their faces, and then I looked at my dented Nissan Sentra.

“I don’t know. I’ve never had occasion to shop there,” and I walked away.

Did their jewelry GPS fail them? or were they looking for an escort?

Were they trying to make a joke?
